Many of the region’s tasting rooms are family-owned. Guests regularly mention meeting the owners at Rhonemus Cellars, Manchester Hill Winery, and Dutch Creek Winery. These are small operations with a personal feel.

Head west, and you stay closest. Hocking Hills Winery sits on Freeman Road, near the state park. Revolution Rockbridge pours in Rockbridge, and Valley View Hills overlooks the water in Sugar Grove.

Head north toward Lancaster for the larger estates. RockSide Winery and Vineyards grows much of its own fruit. Rhonemus Cellars keeps a hilltop property with live music on weekends. Manchester Hill Winery sits farther west, near Circleville, and makes hard cider alongside its wine.

Head south and southeast for the quietest drives. Le Petit Chevalier in Creola has sheep grazing beside the patio. Dutch Creek Winery near Athens specializes in mead and cider. Shade Winery anchors the far end with terrace views over the vineyard.

Downtown Logan works differently. The beer and spirits are all in town, within a couple of blocks of each other.

Two or three stops make a comfortable afternoon. Trying to reach everything in one day turns a relaxed outing into a schedule.

Plan Around Monday and Tuesday Closures

Most tasting rooms in the Hocking Hills area close on Mondays, Tuesdays, or both. This catches a lot of visitors off guard.

Several close even longer. Revolution Rockbridge, Dutch Creek Winery, and Rockmill Brewery all stay shut Monday through Wednesday. Manchester Hill Winery opens Friday through Sunday only.

The covered patio has heaters and a fireplace, so it stays usable well into the cold months. Live music plays most weekends, with food trucks when weather allows.

Flights, glasses, and bottles are all available. The kitchen serves pizza and charcuterie boards, and the raspberry and peach slushies come up constantly in reviews.

Reviews here are unusually strong. Plan a Thursday-through-Sunday visit, since the doors stay shut for the first half of the week.

Valley View Hills Winery

The farthest stop and the most dinner-oriented. Shade serves a full menu with vegan options, along with a wine list.

The terrace looks out over vineyard rows and a pond. Reservations are requested, especially before making the longer drive.

The main Hocking Hills brewery for anyone staying near the state park. Brewing has been running here since 2017.

The taps carry 15 house beers and two craft sodas year-round. The style leans German with an Appalachian influence.

The brewpub kitchen serves sandwiches, appetizers, and pizza. Rotating food trucks join in on warm-weather weekends and events.

The brewing water comes from the headwaters of the Hocking River, filtered through Black Hand Sandstone. That mineral profile shapes the beer.

The grounds include a pond, picnic areas, and an event space. Barbecue is served in the taproom, and live music runs on weekends.

The brewery changed ownership in 2024 and continues to operate.

Downtown Logan’s Walkable Tasting Block

Here is the thing most visitors miss. Three separate tasting experiences sit within two blocks of each other in downtown Logan.

Park once and walk. This is the easiest tasting route in the region, and it works well for a rainy afternoon.

Hocking Hills Brewing Company is not a standalone taproom. The beer is served at 58 West, a restaurant in a converted 1920s car dealership.

Beer, wine, and spirits are all available on site. You can order a beer flight, a wine flight, or a spirit flight at the same table.

Motherwell Distilling Co.

Tucked behind 58 West, and distilling in downtown Logan since 2022. The lineup includes rye whiskey, bourbon, gin, vodka, and rum.

Hocking Hills Moonshine

Hocking County’s first moonshine distillery, about two blocks from 58 West. The free tour shows moonshine being made and covers local prohibition history.

Flights run through the full flavor lineup, and bourbon is available too. A small restaurant operates inside.

Tasting and driving do not mix, and this region makes that a real logistical problem. Rideshare coverage is unreliable here. Hocking Hills Winery advises guests directly that drivers may drop off but often cannot pick up. Plan your transportation before you go.
